Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Biostatistics. Dr. Shen
received his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the Graduate School of Public
Health at University of Pittsburgh in 2004 and jointed IU in the same
year. Dr. Shen’s Ph.D. research focuses on statistical methodological
development for analyzing longitudinal medical data with potentially
non-ignorable missing-values. Dr. Shen has also pioneered in developing
statistical tools to analyze large scale proteomics data and to
integrate various types of genomics data since he joined IU, which has
become the two major research focuses for now. Specifically, Dr. Shen
is interested in statistical methods to (1) improve the accuracy of the
protein identification/quantification and reliability of the FDR
estimate in tandem mass spectrometry and (2) integrate gene expression,
transcription-factor-DNA binding, epigenetics and other information to
infer the mechanism of transcriptional regulation. Both aspects are
critical for studies of diseases (e.g. cancer) using genomics and
proteomics techniques.
